Challenge
We had a loose affiliation of STEM stakeholders and no structure, process, or true outcomes. We hoped to create a more structured group of stakeholders who met regularly. We also hoped the STEM Ecosystem would grow because we were adding value to local STEM stakeholders.
Approach
When Common Cause Consultants were contracted our group gained serious traction. More people joined because they felt the group was adding value and we met more regularly. CCC also created a Facebook page, sends out monthly newsletters, holds consistent meetings, and creates a community for these practitioners with similar interests and goals.
Results
CCC leads to do what’s right, not just for the people they work for, and with, but also to better the greater Pittsburgh community. I am proud and honored, every day, to work alongside Common Cause Consultants.

Challenge
We had limited staff resources to implement the grassroots community outreach work we needed to support strategic shifts in our organization. Common Cause Consultants quickly and professionally created an outreach strategy and implemented that plan to complement our staff resources.
Approach
The primary challenges were 1) identifying and 2) connecting with grassroots community organizations, including neighborhood groups, congregations and school/parent associations. CCC brought this expertise and resources (time) to the project.
Results
We could not have implemented the outreach plan without CCC. In addition to executing the assigned outreach topics, Common Cause Consultants was able to bring back other important feedback from the community meetings that informed our work and resources. Thank you!

Common Cause Consultants filled significant capacity gaps in areas of programming that needed to be provided, but the organization lacked the capital to execute them internally. CCC filled project-based capacity gaps with very little oversight, which is a plus for overworked teams.
Approach
What was really great about working with CCC was their ability to bring an array of content/contextual knowledge to clients, thereby needing very little oversight. Once the initial parameters of each project were determined, CCC was able to execute, leaving the organization to focus on other high priority areas. Additionally, CCC brings a diverse portfolio of social capital that they can draw upon when needed for their clients. That was really helpful to us in our turn-around situation at the time.
Results
Our organization was able to expand its reach into communities not previously tapped, expanding the brand reputation, and providing our youth with higher quality experiences to strengthen the impact outcomes.

RESEARCH

Challenge
We were looking for assistance with gathering information, organizing, and starting an initial analysis of findings across a wide spectrum of regional employers to map K-12 Business Engagement in the region.
Approach
Common Cause Consultants' knowledge of the education space was valuable. After initial introductions to those in the business community, they were able to facilitate discussions and information gathering independently and keep tasks in motion with brief check-ins, but without intervention.
Results
This was a time-intensive project that required significant data gathering and personalized follow-up. We did not have the bandwidth to complete the project in-house so it was great to partner with CCC to gather the mapping and baseline data we needed to take the next step internally.

Challenge
We engaged with Common Cause Consultants for two reasons - first we needed additional capacity to project manage time sensitive projects. Because of the time sensitive nature of the assignments we needed to find someone who would be able to work independently, and bring creativity and strategy to the development of these projects. Secondly, we needed these projects to be completed by someone who brings an expertise in the nonprofit sector and a understanding of the youth serving community in Pittsburgh.
Approach
We enjoyed working with CCC! Each of our projects had different challenges that CCC was able to address: event planning, navigating relationships between partners and constant communication with partner organizations.
Results
Working with Common Cause Consultants is beneficial in numerous ways:
Capacity, strategy, and expertise all in one - being able to work with one group to accomplish three very different goals is an efficient way to do business.
Existing relationships were important to engaging others. CCC utilized a strong existing network to assist in the college/career supports research and in the management of the Summer18 partnership.
If CCC didn't know the answer or needed an additional resources they knew where to seek additional expertise. This was particularly helpful with our HYPE data analysis. It is comforting to know that they could see a need and problem solve to ensure the highest quality result to meet our needs.
